GRADE TWO MUSIC
Grade 2 students will make their own melodies and play simple rhythms. They will understand that rhythms can be paired with melodies and that printed symbols show the direction of a melody. They will find that melodies rise and fall and that music comes in different tempos. Exposed to many folk, ethnic, seasonal and holiday songs, they will also explore movements in response to music.

Hello Grade 2 Students!
I hope that you are all doing well. I know that we are not allowed to sing in class but remember that you can sing and make music at home too. Here are some songs and activities that you can try!

Rhythm or Beat?
Check this out. We know that beat is the heart beat of the music and rhythm is "the way the words go". Try this activity: Sing along to the song in this silly version of "Rain Rain Go Away". Then try it by either patting the beat or clapping the rhythm!

Popcorn Song and Body Percussion
Who likes popcorn? I sure do and here is a fun activity that you can do to the "Popcorn Song". All music has some kind of structure or form. Form is how the music is organized. Listen to the popcorn song and see if you can tell which parts are the same and which parts are different. Do any of the parts repeat? Then listen to the song again and choose actions like the ones below or your own. Perform a different action for each section of the song.

"You Can Sing a Story Too"- Every year in music class we take some time to focus on music and literature. I wish I could be with you in person to sing along but I chose a couple of the grade 2 favorites for you to sing along to at home!
1. "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" by Simms Taback
2. "Pout Pout Fish" by Deborah Diesen

Let's Learn about Pitch
In music we know that pitch is the highness and lowness of sounds. Check out the video below as Mic, Luigi and Cadence teach us more about high, low and middle sounds on "The Music Show". Then try playing high, low and middle sounds on the online boomwhackers or xylophone found in the main menu!
